Connect an Apple (iCloud) Calendar to your community calendar

Your community calendar in CommunitySync syncs from the calendar your team already uses — you keep editing events in Apple Calendar, and they appear in the member portal automatically (hourly, or instantly with Sync now). For Apple, the link you need comes from iCloud's Public Calendar feature.

Before you start: two things Apple does differently

  • Public means public. Unlike Google, iCloud has no "secret address with private calendar" option — publishing a calendar means anyone who has the link can read every event's full details. So never publish your personal calendar: create a dedicated one just for community events (in Apple Calendar: File → New Calendar, on the iCloud account), and put only member-facing events on it.
  • Only iCloud calendars can be published. Google or Exchange accounts you've added to the Apple Calendar app can't be published from there (use that provider's own guide instead), and built-in calendars like Birthdays and Holidays can't be shared at all.

On a Mac (Calendar app):

  1. Open Calendar and find your events calendar in the sidebar (under iCloud).
  2. Right-click it and choose Sharing Settings… (older macOS: Get Info).
  3. Check Public Calendar.
  4. Copy the link that appears — it starts with `webcal://`.

On iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open Calendar and tap Calendars at the bottom.
  2. Tap the (i) next to your iCloud events calendar.
  3. Turn on Public Calendar, then tap Share Link… and copy it.

On iCloud.com:

  1. Open Calendar and click the share icon next to the calendar's name.
  2. Turn on Public Calendar and copy the link.

Connect it in CommunitySync

  1. In your community's Admin Panel, open Calendar → Feeds & categories.
  2. Click Connect a feed, give it a member-friendly name, and paste the `webcal://` link exactly as copied — no need to change it to `https://`, the form handles that.
  3. Click Connect & import — your events import immediately. From then on it syncs every hour on its own.

Tip: the feed's name becomes a filter chip in the member portal for events that have no category (Apple feeds don't carry categories), so name it the way you'd want members to read it — "Office Socials", not "Marcin's calendar".

Troubleshooting

There's no "Public Calendar" option

If your Apple Account is managed by your company or school (Apple Business Manager / Apple School Manager), the organization's administrator may have disabled calendar publishing — the toggle simply doesn't appear. Ask your Apple Business Manager admin to allow it, or keep the events calendar on a regular (personal) iCloud account instead.

I published the calendar but new events aren't in the portal yet

Two delays stack: iCloud can take several minutes to push changes to published calendar links, and CommunitySync syncs hourly. For an immediate refresh, open Admin Panel → Calendar and click the Sync now icon on the feed.

I want to stop sharing

Turn off Public Calendar in the same place you enabled it — the link stops working — then remove the feed in Admin Panel → Calendar (its imported events are removed with it).
