# Manage roles and members

*Members & Roles*

### What you’ll learn

- Understand each role and what it can do
- Promote or restrict members
- Remove access when someone leaves

Your community runs on a five-tier role ladder. As an Owner or Admin you manage who
sits where, within the limits of your own authority.

## The roles, top to bottom

1. **Super Admin** — the platform operator (all communities). Not something you assign.
2. **Community Owner** — the contract holder. Can't be demoted except by the platform
   operator.
3. **Community Admin** — nearly everything an Owner can do, minus owner-level
   governance.
4. **Manager** — operational staff; the black admin panel only (content, roster,
   shared leads).
5. **Agent** — the member portal.

## Change a member's role

1. Go to the **Platform Console** (orange panel) → your community → **Members**.
2. Find the member and open their row.
3. Set their **role**. You can only grant roles **below your own tier** and only within
   communities you administer.
4. Save. Members gaining privileges (Admin, Manager) get a role-appropriate email
   automatically.

## Suspend or reactivate access

Suspension works on two levels — be clear which you mean:

1. **This community only** — suspend the member's *membership*; they can still sign in
but this community gates them out. Use this for a roster change.
2. **The whole account** — a platform-level ban that blocks sign-in everywhere. This is
   a platform-operator action.

To suspend a membership, open the member's row and set their status to **suspended**;
reactivate the same way.

## Troubleshooting

### I can't demote or remove an Owner

Owners are protected — only the platform operator can change an Owner's role. This
prevents a community from accidentally locking itself out.

### A promoted member still can't reach the admin panel

Confirm their **status is active** (not invited/suspended) and that they've signed out
and back in, so their new role loads.
